The main methods
- Acrylic / polymer coatings — economical, good for low-traffic terraces, need periodic recoating (~₹40–70/sq ft).
- APP / bituminous membranes — robust torch-applied sheets for exposed terraces (~₹70–110/sq ft).
- PU (polyurethane) coatings — flexible, durable, good over cracks (~₹90–140/sq ft).
- Integral / box-type treatment — waterproofing built into the slab and screed during construction, the most permanent option.
What drives the cost
The right system depends on whether the terrace is exposed or tiled, how much foot traffic it takes, the slope to drain, and the condition of the existing slab. A survey should come before any quote — a good contractor treats the cause, not just the surface.
Why cheap waterproofing costs more
